Impulse control disorder<\/b>\u00a0or\u00a0ICD<\/b>\u00a0is a class of\u00a0psychiatric disorders<\/a>\u00a0characterized by\u00a0impulsivity<\/a>\u00a0\u2013 failure to resist a temptation, urge or impulse that may harm oneself or others. Many psychiatric disorders feature impulsivity, including\u00a0substance-related disorders<\/a>,\u00a0paraphilias<\/a>,\u00a0attention deficit hyperactivity disorder<\/a>,\u00a0antisocial personality disorder<\/a>,\u00a0borderline personality disorder<\/a>,\u00a0conduct disorder<\/a>,\u00a0schizophrenia<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0mood disorders<\/a>. The revised fourth edition of the\u00a0American Psychiatric Association<\/a>‘s\u00a0Diagnostic and statistical manual of mental disorders<\/a>\u00a0(DSM-IV-TR)<\/i>\u00a0includes the category, “impulse control disorders not elsewhere classified”, which consists of\u00a0kleptomania<\/a>,pathological gambling<\/a>,\u00a0pyromania<\/a>\u00a0(fire-starting),\u00a0trichotillomania<\/a>\u00a0(a compulsion to pull one’s hair out),\u00a0intermittent explosive disorder<\/a>, and “impulse control disorders not otherwise specified”. Other disorders such as,\u00a0dermatillomania<\/a>(compulsive skin picking), compulsive buying and compulsive non-paraphilic sexual behaviour have been proposed for inclusion in the category.[1]<\/a><\/sup><\/p>\n
